The Night Garden

Following up on 2004's The Blessing, Midnight Oil guitarist and producer Jim Moginie and Howlin Wind flute maestro have come up with their second offering, The Night Garden.

The record's title is inspired by Beatle George Harrison's garden design ethos for his home of Friar Park in England. Not being distracted by weeds or flowers to get the relative big picture items in the right spot, George would venture out under faint amounts of moonlight to get the structural bedrock ie dimensions and distances between objects right. In life, we are thus thwarted, overstimulation, anxiety and information overload being the norm, which often blocks the simple and important things from our reach.

Beginning with a simple electric guitar and rythym bed
recording in 2013 to analog tape, further work was done at Howlin's studio in Victoria over summer 2016- 2017, then mixed at Jim Moginie's Oceanic Studio in Sydney.

This was always strictly a humble duo project, Howlin and Jim sharing composition, engineering and mixing duties. The result is a quietly powerful, dreamlike, hearfelt and ethereal work.

Deluxe digipack CD with original artwork by Christabel Blackman.
